NATURISTS TO HIT THE BEACH

27 June 2007

BRITISH NATURISM TO HOST 6 SUMMER BEACH DAYS

British Naturism (BN), the UK’s internationally recognised naturist organisation, is to host or be involved in 6 separate days on officially designated naturist beaches around the coast of the UK this summer.

The beaches - in Yorkshire, Dorset, Gywnedd, Hampshire, Kent and Norfolk - are spread out so as to give as many people as possible the opportunity to attend – especially first-timers.

Officials from BN will be in attendance, offering light refreshments, organising sports and games, and providing information about naturism in the UK and abroad.

BN President, Pat Thompson, said:
“Naturism is now a mainstream lifestyle and holiday choice for people in the UK, with acceptance and understanding having grown rapidly in the last few years. More and more people have sunbathed nude on foreign beaches and discover that it is a comfortable, healthy, relaxing, enjoyable and perfectly normal thing to do - and don’t want to go back to wearing a swimsuit when they return home! When the sun shines, there is nowhere like the British seaside and thousands of UK naturists flock to the nude beaches to enjoy it. We hope that plenty of people will come and enjoy themselves and find out more about the thriving naturist scene in the UK. The events provide a particularly good opportunity for people who have thought about trying naturism, to give it a go, knowing that they will receive a warm welcome and meet lots of like-minded people. Contrary to what you might think, no-one is forced to undress and newcomers are given time to feel comfortable enough to bare all – it doesn’t usually take very long! They also discover that naturists are normal people.”

Notes for Editors
· British Naturism is the UK’s officially recognised naturist organisation. It exists to support and unite naturists around the UK and celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2004, although previous incarnations have been in existence since the 1930s.

· Amongst the aims of BN are to campaign for more naturist places to be made available and to protect naturists against discrimination.

· In the UK, there are over 150 sun clubs, swim clubs and holiday resorts and 12 officially designated naturist beaches, with many more being used regularly by naturists. Membership of BN is around 15,000 people.

· 2007 sees a huge number of other events for naturists at fantastic public venues, such as Alton Towers, Abbey House Gardens in Malmesbury, Wiltshire, and beaches around the UK coastline. In June we hosted Nudefest2007 and were involved in the Red Letter Days event at the Eden Project, both extremely popular and successful events.

· Naturism is good for you. Naturists report improvements in well-being, stress, chronic illness, self-esteem and body image. It’s also a sensible choice of dress when the weather is warm. Naturists are normal people. The only difference between activities inside and outside of naturism is the dress code. See FAQs about naturism here www.british-naturism.org.uk/pages/pages.asp?page_ID=39

· Red Letter Days are Britain’s leading gift experience company www.redletterdays.co.uk

· BN co-produced Bare Britain, with Lifestyle Press in June 2005, a guidebook to naturism and naturist places in the UK. It is available in bookshops up and down the country, a landmark step for a book on this subject, and has become a best-seller. Lifestyle Press will be launching their new guide book – The World’s Best nude beaches and resorts at the Garden of Eden. www.british-naturism.org.uk/pages/pages.asp?page_ID=49 A new guidebook from Lifestyle Press – the World Best Nude Beaches and Resorts – is to be published on 23 June 2007. · YBN (Young British Naturists) has a membership of young men and women between the ages of 16 and 30 who get together at clubs and beaches many weekends. They represented the UK at the International Naturist Federation (INF) Youth Rally held in France in 2005 and hosted the Rally in the UK in May 2007 – see www.british-naturism.org.uk/news/detail.asp?article_ID=48 for details.
